It was midday; the hottest time of day. The sun loomed directly above the city like a heat lamp. It was such a dry, uncomfortable heat. Samuel managed to slip away from his master to search for shade. He approached the building uneasily, setting his sights at the doorway. He laid in the shade underneath the doorway, staring out blankly at the seemingly everlasting cityscape before him.
It almost seemed the only comfortable seasons were Spring and Fall, seeing as they usually had moderate temperature. Winter was generally a frozen hell while the summer heat had the capability to fry you to the bone. The heat seemed to keep Samuel from thinking about how hungry he was.
He sighed deeply.
He felt a sharp pain in his stomach, and he winced until the pain had subsided. Soon, he shifted to lay on his side. He could not bare to think what Theyr'Wolfe would do if he found him. Samuel could only hope to find him first, it would possibly seem better in the wolf dog's eye if thought was put into it. Instead of Theyr'Wolfe coming to him, Samuel would go to him. Unfortunately, it seemed much too hot to leave the shade to return to his puppet master. He would wait until the day would cool down. Stubbornness would not allow him to leave until night fell, which would probably be dangerous for his physical being.
Samuel could only think to enjoy the shade as much as he could, it seemed to be a blessing at this time of day; when things hardly cast off a shadow. He still could only hope that Theyr'Wolfe would not find him first, as he seems to have embodied his entire life as of the life changing day they met.

frozen inside without your touch Without your love, darling only you are the life among the dead
Fauna
A quiet moan escaped her black mug. The only thing to be thankful for anymore was the scraps you could find and that summer was almost over. Soon enough it would give way to fall. The burning hell that was known as whatever home was would become more hospitible yet less hospitible at the same time. As time went on, you could avoid being burnt to a crisp by the heat, yet there was even less food to go around, raising the full stomach to death ratio up to 1 in 255; if there were even that many left.
The mutt barely had much longer to live anyway, but she would rather die peacefully as she could in this dire situation and have her corpse go to someone she actually cared about rather than being killed by some young wild animal that only cares about their own survival. She only had 2 or 3 years left at the most, but better sooner than never with the way man had set themselves up. Hundreds died each day. Those that died were eaten by savages, or shoved into an overcrowded cemetary. The cemetary was home to Fauna. The creamish beige and black mutt lived in a sewer drain, and this was one of the few times the old bitch traveled somewhere else, even though her old age of 9 years prohibited plenty.
Wandering had brought her here, to an abandoned complex of connected human houses. She had been sitting in the sun for several minutes resting, the sun eating the black fur off of her back. It was too hot. Finally, she eased herself up and kept going, walking over to the side of the building, blissfully unaware of the other dog only a few feet away. She was still somewhat fit, and reared up to a halfway boarded window, stretching to see inside. Just some torn up furnature and dust bunnies by the thousands. It looked as if spiders, cockroaches and other bugs that she couldn't even identify had manifested and thrived in the disgusting and horrifying plague. Fauna would rather have some freakish mutation due to a nuclear bomb and radiation than die of starvation due to some man made disease that didn't even affect her except for a lack in food and human support. She was even tempted to leave the city for richer pickings, but her old age bound her to the wrecked town. It was her home, even if it didn't fit the ideal meaning of the word, and that is that.

The young sheepdog mix laid silently for several minutes. As he looked at the asphalt under the sun, it almost seemed as if it was steaming. The thought of boiling paw pads made him wince shortly and whimper quietly.
Samuel turned his body where his head was facing inside the building. He had never seen anything so dark and decomposed, it was gruesome. It had seemed everywhere he turned, a hellful secret was hiding somewhere in the corner of his eye.
The claw clicking on pavement caught Samuel's attention quickly. He quietly rose to his feet and peeked out the doorway, looking left a right. He saw a rather larger dog stretched into a winder a few feet away from him. It was easily mistaken for Theyr'Wolfe, and his body took a very submissive, fearful position. He slowly approached the other dog, sitting next to it with his head hung low. Samuel thought it was a more wise decision to join Theyr'Wolfe now than keep running. That would be a horrific event in the end.
"Master," he said, addressing the forcefully domineering dog.
Before the other dog had answered, Samuel looked up, examining the face of the other dog. Soon, he realized it was not Theyr'Wolfe. His eyes widened, full of fear. Was addressing this dog a good or bad choice? He did not want to find out, he would rather be safe than sorry. His body crouched low to the ground, his tail tucking between his legs. He was slowly backing away from the dog, eyes watching its every move; very alert.
He would just wait for the reaction of the opposing mutt. Once it was assured dangerous, he would bolt into the other direction, and never look back. Something inside him compelled him to wait for a reaction. Maybe this dog was nice? Or even, maybe it was just as nasty, or nastier, than TheyrWolfe. Every thought got worse and worse. He might just die before Theyr'Wolfe got to him.
OOC; I have serious writer's block, man. Been months.

Fauna
Fauna's senses failed her again and she didn't notice the other dog approaching her, although it was partially due to the fact that her massive head was crammed inbetween two wooden planks that were close to falling apart. She yelped quietly in surprise, knocking the back of her head against the board, sending up a cloud of dust as it broke and fell, trumbling to either side of her with a clank. She took a few steps back on her hind legs before standing up right. Wheezing, she wiped her moist black nose with a large paw.
"Wha-? Master?" she coughed, shaking her head to look at the dog. She blinked away some dust out of her unnaturally blue eyes and got a better look at the mutt. He was hunkered down submissively. The bitch rolled her eyes and scoffed to herself. "I'm not your mast and I'm not gonna kill you. You can get up now," she barked flatly, finding it hard to keep down her hurtful remarks. She was always chewing people out whenever she met them, and it made her seem to be quite the unfriendly character. Maybe she was...

Samuel's eyes were full of fear. He yelped in surprise as the planks or wood fell beside the female.
"Wha-? Master?" she said to Samuel. His body shifted backward a bit more.
"I'm not your mast and I'm not gonna kill you. You can get up now," Samuel instantly felt relieved and he let his body relax. He still did not completely trust the other dog, so he stood his ground and kept a safe distance. At his safe distance, Samuel asked, "What is your name?" He almost let slip the rude, "Who are you?", but he did not.
He felt nervous around the girl, only out of fear. He shuffled his feet nervous, almost if he was doing the pee-pee dance. But eventually, Samuel relaxed, as it seemed she was not going to hurt him. Even if she tried to, he would just run. And run. And run, as far away from her as possible. That was his key element, the only thing standing between him and death was his speed and quick wits. However, quick wits always seemed to escape him in fear.
OOC: I'm so sorry I let this abomination slip..

Fauna
Fauna narrowed her vivid cerulean eyes at the male, almost hesitating in releasing her identity. "Fauna," she barked. "Yours?" She hadn't completely forgot how to go about a conversation, even though there seemed to be less and less dogs out on the street. Most died. Others moved on. Still others disappeared without a trace; most likely eaten. She had turned into a scavenger herself, not willing enough to travel too far. She got all the corpses she needed from the place in the cemetary were the humans burned the dead. They hardly ever did that anymore, though. Damn near every single human in town had left. It was as if the apocalypse had hit. Truth is, it did. For the humans.
She had seen the disease herself. Not pretty. Bad for the humans, good for the dogs in a way. It was clear that the disease wouldn't stop spreading, and was virtually indestructable. The whole thing took too much thinking, and though Fauna blanked off for a few seconds thinking about it as she often times did, she was back to earth in time to witness the other dog's reaction.
((Wow. I'm a little rusty. xD *puts post on a taffy stretcher*))

Samuel felt some discomfort as the larger female narrowed his eyes at him. He brushed off the discomfort to say his name emotionlessly, "Samuel." It was said in his usual nasalliness, there was no doubt about it.
After that, the moment just got awkward. Samuel would not say a single thing unless spoken to, he was too modest and, overall, nervous. He let himself get comfortable and began to gnaw through his tangling fur. It seemed vain, but he took pride in it.
He spent several minutes practically brushing through his fur with his teeth, pulling out tangles and knots and licking out clumps of dirt. Once he was satisfied, he sat motionlessly. He stared with his head positioned directly in front of him; however, he paid no mind to whatever was before him. He let himself drift into thought. One thought lead to one, and that one to another. It was basically a chain of ideas he was creating to pass the time.
OCC; RP beginnings are slow, especially when two rusty players try their best xD

Fauna
Fauna gave a quick nod, allowing her brightly contrasting gaze to wander slightly. Samuel... Simple enough. Unlike her own. She had no idea why her mother had chosen it, she wasn't even quite sure about what it meant. Something about animals...? Even so, it suited her. She was a bit of an animal her mill days toughened her. She was literally a run of the mill dog. She compared to any other mutt in the hell hole of a city, she was pretty ordinary.
The male also seemed simple himself. He randomly began gnawing on his coat. Fauna has grown used to her medium-length rat's nest. She hardly even tried to groom it anymore, except when she got ticks or cobwebs on it. She remained standing, and she almost looked young, her legs straight and angled like a rottweiler's, her black and tan sickle tail arched over her back, her massive skull held high, her chest fluffed and her bright eyes looking down on the considerably smaller collie. She figured that she was at least nearly a foot taller than the mutt. But one thing still confused her...
"This so-called 'master' of yours; is he human?"
((I guess so! xD))

As Samuel's train of thought crashed, he turned his attention back to the large dog. She was staring him down with her bright blue eyes. It was somewhat intimidating and made Samuel feel uncomfortable.
"This so-called 'master' of yours; is he human?"
Samuel thought about his answer for longer than he expected. The answer was easy to say, yet he seemed confused on what humans were. Maybe they were the sickly grotesque creatures Samuel would see occasionally, although, he did not know that dogs could be these vulnerable creatures' slaves. Samuel snapped back to reality in time to answer the question. "He is a dog," he said simply, "I thought you were him, until I looked up and noticed you were not."
Samuel could not help but crack a smile. Maybe he was spared of Theyr'Wolfe's rage for another few hours while here. "I am quite glad," he said quietly, almost to himself. And with that, Samuel realized that the conversation may just be about his master. Him and his tyrannous ways and formidable demeanor. Samuel hoped maybe he would find him along with his mate. What was his name again? Samuel thought to himself, Ah Bane! Bane was the leader of the pack that Theyr'Wolfe dragged him in. Fortunately, he seemed nice, and hopefully, he may make Samuel feel more like a pack member than a slave at times. Samuel could only hope for this.
At the thought of this, Samuel let his body get really comfortable, laying his chin as his paws. His dark eyes were wide open, they looked like black orbs in his eye sockets. Soon, he turned his attention back to Fauna, and left it for her next reply or reaction to there tiny spree of small talk.
OOC: AW, Samuel is being braver than usual in this RP. He isn't shuddering LOL.

Fauna
"Hm," the bitch grunted in response, pondering over his answer. It had been a while since she had felt this dominant. 'Take it easy, Fauna. You're too old for this,' she thought to herself, allowing herself to relax her bold posture slightly. Her tail was held normally, straight behind her with its hooked shape curving it down and then back up and almost towards her rump again if it were long enough. Her chest deflated and her massive head leaned forward slightly. Seeing as Samuel laid back down, she continued what she was doing.
Her earlier fumble with the window had left it a gaping hole, though the siding that had already fallen apart was coaxed off of the building a little more. the remaining top plank on the window had been broken in half and protruded slightly, though the bottom one was missing. It's shattered remains were scattered on the ground. She reared up, placing her jet black paws on the openning. She craned her head in again. The whole place was painted this brownish gray color. Even the leftover furnature. Oh yeah... It was just a thick coating of dust. She twitched her nose and sneezed at the moldy and dusty smell. This sent up a large cloud of dust that stung her eyes and nearly choked her.
She squeezed her eyes shut as dust got in them, making her prized devices burn and water unforgivingly. She nearly suffocated in the cloud, and pulled out of the window, hunkering down on the ground and nearly hacking out a lung. Her half flopped bitten ears were angled back and she pawed at her closed eyes, growling inbetween coughs irritably. She wheezed several times before removing her large paws from her eyes and opening them reluctuntly. "I'm fine," she croaked, coughing afterwards. If the male had asked if she was ok already, she hadn't heard it. She huffed air out of her nose, trying to clear it of the dust and blinked her eyes testingly, her vision a little fuzzy from the dust. It would probably wear off later. Her sight was failing her anyway.

"Hm," she grunted. Was she in disbelief? Samuel thought to himself. To this female, maybe it seemed almost unbelievable that a dog would enslave another dog. Although, it was very possible for a tyrannous monster like Theyr'Wolfe. His thoughts left reality once more as he began to realize that leaving the pack territory may result in serious punishment to him. Samuel quietly whimpered.
"I'm fine," coughed the female. Samuel had not noticed what she was doing as he was lost in thought. He seemed to disregard her statement as he considered the hell he would walk into by returning to the pack. His whimpering seemed to grow louder until he impulsively muttered, "I'm so scared."
He whined some more, yet it seemed it was only to himself. "I do not want to go back!" He whimpered, "He will kill me. Someone will kill me. I do not want to die!" He looked up at Fauna, his wide, almost black eyes seeming to glimmer. He backed up a few steps, then turned to the other direction and began to run. He was not scared of Fauna, he was just generally scared. He turned the corner of the building and hid himself on the other side of it. It would take a few hours to realize the punishment would be worse if he kept hiding.
Where he was, he collapsed, almost seeming to look dead. His eyes were open and half his body was out of the shade. He imagined and assumed the worst of everything.
Blahblahblahblahblah.

Fauna
Fauna drew back a little. That was just plain pitiful. As he turned and ran, she frowned, her eyes half closed. Letting out a scoff and rolling her eyes, she drew herself forward into a walk. As she was getting older, nearing ten years, her age was becoming more and more apparent. The thick muscles that had been clearly visible in her shoulders when she was younger were seeming to melt and vanish under the sun, and the heat wasn't helping the old bitch's public image. The heat made her more weak than she normally was, and though she was still able to carry herself, it was a struggle, as if death was trying to cut her down at the legs earlier than her time. She would be greatful for fall, when the heat diminished.
At a considerably slower pace, Fauna followed after Samuel. When she reached the corner, she peered around it, her eyes narrowed. She didn't go much further, as she didn't wish to be cooked alive just for leaving the shade. She didn't respect the slave much, but he had gotten past her horrible etiquette upon first meeting someone. "Get up. You aren't gonna die," she growled, adding to herself, "Not on my watch."

That little shit…
One’s scent wasn’t a difficult thing to track in the Stranglehold, really. There weren’t too many living creatures to interfere with the intended scent, and when there was, it wasn’t hard to ignore it and move on. Of course, mold, dust and decay would cause problems too, but their particular smells are not to be confused with that of a living creature. However, in the Southwind Apartment complex, things were a different story. Rooms were regularly opened, allowing new and to-be-indentified odors to waft through the air. It was here and the sewers only that a track could be lost and this reason is why Theyr’Wolfe was in such a bad mood.
Once again, Samuel had run off. Really, it was becoming a regular occurrence, and because of such Theyr’Wolfe was becoming more and more lenient towards the punishment (not to say his punishments aren’t severe), but damn it was an irritant. That stupid runt, how did he expect to leave anyway? He was marked. He smelled of the casino. He was pathetic, but still alive. To any other intelligent dog, that obviously meant something. Samuel was Theyr’Wolfe’s property, and the wolfdog didn’t give up his belongings very easily. He’s going to go hungry tonight…. he thought to himself. Maybe tomorrow too.
The dog lowered his nose to the asphalt below and inhaled. Nothing. He moved to a different spot and tried again. Once more, nothing was to be smelled, and it was growing ever tiring. The sky was a depressing gray-blue color, the shadows of the decrepit building becoming ever more emphasized. The derelict structure taunted him. Ha! You lost to me! He’s mine now, Canine!
Absolutely not. Theyr’Wolfe would not have it.
”Tiny!” The animal howled, ”I know you’re here! Come out, mate. You’re on patrol for this already, and if you want dinner afterward you’ll be here soon!” He walked up a spiral set of rusted metal stairs to the second level. Sitting back, he allowed himself to scan the surroundings. He’d know if Samuel were to come out.

"Get up. You aren't gonna die," growled that female from before. Samuel looked up at her. "Not on my watch." Samuel did not understand, why did she care? He would not ask her, he would just take this motivation as a blessing. With a bit more confidence, he scooted the other half of his body out of the sun.
Once Samuel started to concentrate, like he does when calm, he realized that what he had just done was very embarrassing. As well as pathetic. He seemed to be obviously embarrassed. He spent several minutes calming down and trying to brush off the embarrassment he felt.
”Tiny!” It was the voice, his voice. Samuel's heart had sank immediately hearing his name. ”I know you’re here! Come out, mate. You’re on patrol for this already, and if you want dinner afterward you’ll be here soon!” The howl echoed, yet Samuel could not tell where it was coming from. His pupils dilated, purely out of fear. Fortunately, his impulse made him reveal himself in the concrete lot, looking for Theyr'Wolfe; he, luckily, realized that putting in more of a struggle will probably lose him his entire ear. He did not even look back at the female. He vigorously shuddered and just waited for something to happen. His mind raced, he was hot and in fear.

Fauna
Fauna looked up, her half flopped ears almost straight and swiveling as she searched for the source of the voice. She was unable to find it, but knew almost certainly that it was coming from inside the building. Her dulling blue eyes narrowed, and her attention snapped to Samuel as he relocated to the open space, allowing himself to be found. Fauna glued herself to the building, watching in silence for the dog that had claimed the poor mutt as a slave.
For reasons the beige and black dog couldn't fathom, she was prepared to defend the so-called "slave" from his imprisonment. Perhaps it was because the mutt was just so damn pitiful it was heartbreaking and even downright annoying, or that he seemed genuinely fearful for his life. Whatever the cause, the only thing that mattered at that moment in deafening silence, was that Samuel lived and his torchurer was brought to justice. Even though it was a fight that Fauna probably would just barely make it out of if at all, she was prepared. Her days in the puppy mill, under the command of older and much more dominant dogs had hardened her, and she didn't want anyone to go through anything even remotely similar to it. Her old age weakened her body, but not her spirit.
