[/u] discouraged.
Since we have gotten many questions on what wolfspeak is when we tell people to stop using it or that it isn't allowed here, we are going to post up a list of commonly used words in wolfspeak as well as their dictionary meaning. Wolfspeak does not make your posts sounds nice, fancy, or pretty, it simply makes them hard to understand and, as noted earlier, is banned here.
GENDER
Female
Fem: An abbreviation of female or feminine. You wouldn't abbreviate other words, why abbreviate this one?
Fae: The only definition for this is an abbreviation for Fuel Air Explosive. Your dog is not a bomb.
Fea: Variation of Fae; "fea" is Spanish for ugly and is thus an insult. You really want to be ugly?
Femora: "The proximal bone of the hind or lower limb that extends from the hip to the knee" Your dog is definitely not a bone.
Dove: Your dog is not a bird. We are ok with this being used in speech if another dog is calling your female a dove, as a pet name, but don't use it out of speech.
Vixen: A female fox, not a dog. Try again.
Male
Brute: "characteristic of an animal in quality, action, or instinct." Any animal can be a brute regardless of gender.
Mascu: Again, not a word but an abbreviation/shortening. Why would you abbreviate this when you wouldn't abbreviate other words?
Brujo: This one doesn't even have a dictionary definition, so I'm assuming it's foreign.
Stag: "An adult male red deer", "a male animal castrated after sexual maturity", "a young adult male domestic chicken or turkey", so unless your dog is a deer, castrated after sexual maturity, or a chicken/turkey, don't say it.
BODY PARTS
Head/Face
Dial: "the face of a sundial/clock." Your dog is not a clock.
Crown: Refers to the head, often the forehead. Do I really have to be saying this? A crown is the thing you wear on your head, usually to signify royalty or that it's your birthday and you got the special birthday crown. It's not your head. You don't put the crown on your crown. You put it on your head. However, crown can also mean "top of the head" (not the entire head.) But you'd probably use it with "of the head", so it'd be "the crown of the head", not just the head.
Tiara: Do I need to even explain this one? Again, your dog's head is not a crown.
Cranium/Crania: Both of these are used to describe the head. Crania is the plural form, so if you're using it as the single form, you fail. Cranium does indeed refer to the head, but cranium is only the back of the head, not the entire head.
Mug: Can mean face, but it should only be used in dialogue/thoughts/other first-person, because its slang status makes it unsuitable for third-person narration.
Facade: "The front of a building." I know it looks a lot like the word face, guys, but it only works if you're a building. Your dogs are not buildings.
Eyes
Optics: "A science that deals with the genesis and propagation of light, the changes that it undergoes and produces, and other phenomena closely associated with it." Your dog is not a science.
Orbs: This one can technically mean eye, though we dislike seeing it used we won't outright ban it, just highly discourage its use.
Pools: "A small body of standing liquid."
Lanterns: "A usually portable protective case for a light with transparent openings." Just... no.
Oculars: "Eyepiece." As in glasses, not your dog's eyes.
Ears
Auds: Not even a word.
Harks: "To pay close attention." Not ears.
Radars: Seriously? I'm sure you can figure out why this is just wrong.
Satellites: Same for this one.
Nose
Nares: Technically, this can mean nose, but it is referring to specific part of the nostril and, honestly, we don't see the need to use it. This will not be outright banned, but it will be very discouraged.
Body
Bodice: "The upper part of a woman's dress." Your dog is not wearing a dress.
Legs
Pillars/Columns: "A firm upright support for a superstructure: a usually ornamental column or shaft; especially one standing alone for a monument." Your dog's legs are not supporting a building.
Pistons: "A sliding piece moved by or moving against fluid pressure which usually consists of a short cylindrical body fitting within a cylindrical chamber or vessel along which it moves back and forth." I do not see any mention of legs in there.
Claws:
Talons: Birds have talons, dogs don't.
Daggers: "A sharp pointed knife for stabbing." Your dog does not have knives in its paws.
Tail
Banner/Flag: "A piece of cloth attached by one edge to a staff and used by a leader (as a monarch or feudal lord) as his standard." Your dog does not have a flag for a tail.
Tassel: "A dangling ornament made by laying parallel a bunch of cords or threads of even length and fastening them at one end." Your dog's tail is not made up of a bunch of cords/threads.
Whipcord: "A thin tough cord made of braided or twisted hemp or catgut." Your dog's tail is made of intestines?
Paws
Mitts: "A woman's glove that leaves the fingers uncovered." Is your dog wearing gloves suddenly?
Fur
Canvas: How does this even remotely resemble "fur", like the fur on your character? The correct answer is, "It doesn't!" Canvas is basically closely woven fabric, cotton, wool or linen. Not dog fur.
Pelt: "A usually undressed skin with its hair, wool, or fur". This is the fur of a dead animal, one that has been skinned. It is not the fur of your still-living dog. We may let this slide sometimes, but it is highly
OTHER
Name
Dubbance: No dictionary definition.
Curse: "A prayer or invocation for harm or injury to come upon on." Your name is not this.
Calling: "A strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence." Just because people "call" you by it does not mean it is your "calling".
Speech/Words
Lyrics: "The words of a song." Unless your dog is singing, don't use it.
More may later be added to this.
